Top 5 Reasons to Run Away to Carmel

We all have our reasons to run away — we understand. Carmel brings memories for those who have been and possibilities for those who have not.

You're Tired of the Cold

Oh, you're not familiar with Carmel in February? Well, believe it or not, most days are in the mid-60s to low-70s! More often than not, our early months can actually be warmer than our summers. This is especially enticing if you're tired of shoveling snow like our friends to the east.

Clear skies help too, especially when you consider our neighbors to the north like Seattle. It's also worth mentioning the flights you can catch to our local Monterey Airport — making this the perfect time and super convenient. No rental car needed!

The In-Laws Are Coming!
The In-Laws Are Coming!

No, sweetie — I love your parents, honest! This may come as a surprise to many, but the mention of in-laws is known to cause a bit of stress.

So here's an idea. Instead of everyone cramming into one spot for the holidays (or whatever the special occasion might be), how about booking a room at the Horizon Inn & Ocean View Lodge for them instead? Nothing feels better than that goodbye hug after dinner as they walk in and check into their room.

Or — hear me out — let the in-laws stay at your place and babysit while you and your significant other take the room for a mini getaway.

We Both Work Valentine's Day

As people who work in hospitality, we get it. With essential workers, celebrating on the actual day can sometimes be difficult.

Why not book the same room for a different day? You'll save more and can even add an Anniversary Celebration Package or our Romance Package to the room with the money you saved. When you and that special someone walk through the door, it won't matter what day the calendar says — love is right on time.

Driving from LA to San Francisco and Need a Break

You've been driving for a while and everyone's getting restless. The kids haven't had Wi-Fi, the adults are hungry, and you've already heard your last "Are we there yet?" five times.

As you're enjoying the Pacific Coast Highway, your rest stop just happens to be Carmel — and you're in luck. When you pass the Horizon Inn, the vacancy sign is up. You park the car and ask for a room. Oliver and Liz are at the front desk, and they have a cottage that fits your needs.

Room 204 has enough space for everyone — and the dog! Not to mention the full-size kitchen, which is perfect for refrigerator space so the food in the cooler doesn't go bad. Now that the hard part is over, your biggest challenge is deciding which restaurant to pick from the staff recommendation list Liz handed you.

No Reason
No Reason

Now here's a personal favorite for many: no reason. Absolutely none at all.

You've told yourself a million times that you need to take a vacation. You pack up the car or buy a plane ticket and imagine the possibilities of what your next Carmel trip has in store.

You're with your loved ones, taking a moment to enjoy each other's company. This is the moment you've been waiting for. You feel immense happiness — and maybe a touch of sadness. Sadness knowing this moment won't last forever, and that it doesn't happen nearly as much as it should.

But none of that matters enough when you see your favorite person's smile as they enjoy themselves. Because really, you could be anywhere right now — and the fact that you're here, with these people, in this town, feels like being everything and everywhere all at once.

So even when you have no good reason at all to take that trip, that might just be as good of a reason as any.
