    ** 58th Annual Sandcastle Contest **
    September 8, 2018
Carmel Beach South of 10th Avenue.
Building begins at 8:00am and judging at 12:00pm. For decades, the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea and the Monterey Bay chapter of the American Institute of Architects have collaborated on The Great Sand Castle Contest, announcing the date and theme a few weeks prior to the big day. Everyone who would like to build a castle can enter the contest, and judges bestow awards for multiple categories, from the coveted Golden Shovel, to the tongue-in-cheek Sour Grapes. And because bribery (non-monetary) is encouraged, it's not unusual to see platters of food, bottles of wine, chair massages and other indulgences being offered to the people in charge. The contest is held on Carmel Beach from Scenic south of 10th. For more information call Carmel Community Services at (831) 620-2020.

** The Lusty Adventures of Tom Jones at the Outdoor Forest Theater ** September 28 - 18

    Santa Rosa & Mountain View
PacRep's annual Forest Theatre classic is a rollicking and naughty adaptation of Henry Fielding's ribald classic, Tom Jones. Abandoned as a child to the care of Squire Allworthy, Tom Jones is now all grown up and launched into the bewildering, romantic world. He falls madly in love with the virtuous Sophia Western -- but Sophia's father is determined to keep the two apart. In his pursuit of true love, the well-intentioned Tom finds himself the object of female attention and romantic complication. But will these misadventures permanently jeopardize his chances with Sophia? Tom Jones is a bawdy and rollicking comedy for the stage that will have the audience on their feet.

    ** Poodle Day **
    October 6th
Poodle Day is an annual event in Carmel that unites poodle owners and lovers -- and their furry companions -- for a fun-filled day. Poodle Day kicks off with a parade for poodles, poodle mixes, and their human companions followed by other activities. Afternoon events include off-leash beach play -- organized by the Poodle Day Team -- a scenic stroll, a hike, or other dog-friendly activities around Carmel. Later that evening, cocktail parties allow the dogs to lounge in style as their human companions gather for drinks, hors d'oeuvres, and conversation. Register your poodle for the parade here: http://poodleday.com/parade/ Proceeds from Poodle Day benefit NorCal Poodle Rescue, which has been a haven for poodles and poodle mixes in need in Northern California and Southern Oregon for 30 years. NorCal's philosophy is to help poodles while also enriching the lives of the people who adopt them.
